The government in American Samoa is offering up to five thousand US dollars in monetary bonuses for teachers who want to relocate to the Manu'a Island group.

The Education Director, Dr. Lui Tuitele, says the new bonus programme offers teachers, administrators and counselors, who live on the main island of Tutuila, two thousand five hundred dollars a semester to relocate.

The Government has come in for criticism for not addressing the matter sooner.

Dr. Tuitele said the decision to offer the stipends was to recruit and attract good teachers, and to retain teachers in Manu'a.
