The Secretary of Agriculture and Livestock in Papua New Guinea says up to 80 people could be sacked from the Department for fraud.

Matthew Wela Kanua says after 3 months of investigations he has discovered that more than 40 staff members have been recieving more than twice the amount of allowances they are entitled to.

Mr Kanua says he suspects the department may have lost up to 3-million US dollars over recent years through the scam.

He says 8 people have been sacked and 41 others have been given seven days notice.

Mr Kanua says investigations are continuing and more staff will soon be disciplined.
