5:01 pm on 2 November 2004

Palau's Election Commission expects today's general election to go well.

Election Commission chairman, Santos Borja, said they have assigned volunteers or election board members to help oversee the conduct of the poll.

Polling stations opened at seven this morning local time and will close this evening.

Counting and tabulation of votes will be done two hours after the polling places are closed.

Nearly 13 thousand registered voters are expected to cast their votes today.
