Tokelau representatives in talks with NZ government

7:21 am on 5 November 2004

Representatives from Tokelau will hold talks with the Government today on the nature of its future political status with New Zealand.

Last November, Tokelau's assembly unanimously decided to explore a move to self-government in free association with New Zealand.

Niue and the Cook Islands also hold this status.

The New Zealand Foreign Minister Phil Goff, says Tokelau is already running itself in many respects, and has its own judicial system, legislative body, runs its own budget and provides public services.
