A soldier from Wallis and Futuna has been named as one of nine French peacekeepers killed in Ivory Coast last Saturday.

Chief Corporal Patelise Falevalu recognised as a leading traditional dancer on the island of Futuna.

Chief Corporal Falevalu served with the Second Infantry Regiment which had been sent to Ivory Coast to protect the French community there from worsening unrest.

The administrator of Wallis and Futuna, Christian Job, says the people are saddened by the death.

Mr Job says the body of Chief Corporal Falevalu will be flown to the territory after a service in France.
