The police commander for the Papua New Guinea province of West Sepik says his men are helpless to combat people and gun smuggling in the region.
West Sepik is on the border of PNG and Indonesia and Joe Poema has called on the government to send man-power and finances because the province's policing problems make PNG vulnerable to global crime.
Mr Poema says urgent help is needed.
"We have not enough man-power and we don't have the logistics and the know-how to keep us and people are using the sea to travel in and out during night hours."
