4:29 pm on 12 November 2004

The Governments of Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea are set to finalise a Memorandum of Understanding, on the engagement of PNG magistrates to serve in the Solomons Judiciary.

Chief Justice Albert Palmer says the Chief Magistrate of PNG, John Numapo, and his Finance and Administration Manager, Robin Guria, are in the country to confirm the MOU.

The SIBC reports that Justice Palmer says under the MOU, Port Moresby will provide a Principal Magistrate for an initial period of three years and another one on stand-by for shorter periods as and when requested.

The MOU between the two governments was agreed on early this year, but was not finalised.
