The New Zealand Foreign Minister, Phil Goff, says an outcome is wanted in French Polynesia that will produce a legitimate and stable government.
The five-week-long political deadlock continues in the territory which has two rival governments as it awaits key court decisions in France.
Mr Goff says new elections are likely following a decision from a judge early this week that election irregularities occurred in the windward islands in May.
But he says New Zealand hasn't formed a judgment on whether partial or territory-wide elections should be held.
"What we would hope, however, is that we can get an outcome that will produce stable government and will demonstrate under the law of the territory who legitimately should be government."
