Samoa seeks end to American Samoa meat export ban

American Samoa's ban on meat products from Samoa is still in place but during the recent joint Samoa Trade exhibition, discussions have been held on what needs to be done to get the ban lifted.

The President of the Samoa Association of Manufacturers and Exporters, Papalii Grant Percival says the American Samoa meat inspector provided helpful information.

He says this would help them get started on removing existing barriers in exporting sausages, pisupo and salt beef, made in Samoa, to Tutuila.

Samoa's Trade Minister, Joe Keil says the government is planning to set up an abbatoir perhaps by next year and was eyeing the American Samoa market for export.
