A meeting between the Papua New Guinea and the Australian police has revealed that there is a sophisticated criminal syndicate in operation between the two countries.
Southern Region Divisional commander John Marru told the meeting in Milne Bay that the gang syndicate was divided into two groups - the Titanic and the Aliens.
Mr Marru says the Titanic group operates out of the Papua New Guinea border while the Aliens operates within the country.
He says a police operation early this year recovered highly sensitive communications equipment near Daru in Western Province.
Mr Marru says intelligence indicates there is a drug syndicate operating between Goroka in the Eastern Highlands and Daru.
He says its believed that policemen, businessmen, private enterprise security officers and local citizens are heavily involved.
The Post Courier says police are conducting preliminary inquiries into the information.
