The Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum says the body will increase its assistance of Nauru in the new year.

Greg Urwin says the Forum will look at strengthening the country's law and justice sector.

Earlier this year Nauru approached the Forum for help after it found intself in an economic crisis.

Mr Urwin says the Forum has already started a lot of work in Nauru but more help is on the way.

"We've established a representative in Nauru. we're already supporting the Nauru legislative in stabilising itself. We've provided official observers to the election and provided technical assistance associated with that. So there are a range of things underway, but the pace will quicken as 2005 gets underway. ."
