Fiji's military commander says the post-coup 2001 general elections brought back all of George Speight's people except him.

The Fiji Times quotes Commodore Frank Bainimarama as saying that when people like Senator Apisai Tora, the attorney general Qoriniasi Bale and the chief executive of the Prime Minister's Office, Jioji Kotobalavu, speak you know they have an agenda.

Commodore Bainimarama says it is a pity those implicated in the coup are back in the government.

He says that is why the military has always said the (government organised) reconciliation process was a farce.

Commodore Bainimarama says his meetings on national security with his commander in chief, President Iloilo, are confidential.

He says that is why he had asked the president's ousted official secretary, Paula Kunabuli, and the previous holder of the position Dr Goneyali, to leave the room during his discussions with the president.

Commodore Bainimarama says he did not recommend a name for the vacant vice president's position during his meeting with President Iloilo at the weekend and only advised him to be cautions when making the appointment.
