Polynesia Airlines blames flight recorder for grounding

11:13 am on 17 December 2004

The Chief Executive Officer of Polynesian Airlines, Malopaia John Fitzgerald, is blaming the flight data recording system for the grounding of its aircraft for more than two days at Tafuna airport.

The grounded plane left hundreds of passengers travelling between the two Samoas, stranded.

Mr Fitzgerald said new components had to be fitted and tested before the Dash-8 could begin flying again.

The CEO apologised to passengers whose travel plans were disrupted when flights resumed yesterday.

The Dash-8 began flying on the inter Samoa route on the first of November.
