Pacific Islands Forum donates relief money to Asian partners

10:41 am on 3 January 2005

The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat has donated 48 thousand US dollars for tsunami relief to its Forum dialogue partners - India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

The Forum Secretary General, Greg Urwin, said while the amount was not great, the Pacific Islands Forum wanted to do what it could to support those affected in their relief efforts.

He said while the Forum Island Countries would no doubt be launching national relief campaigns, the Pacific Islands Forum would like to extend a small helping hand to its Asian partners.

Mr Urwin said these neighbors and friends of the Pacific had supported Forum countries in many ways, and over a long period.
