The Pacific Islands Forum has received 3,000 US dollars from the Suva-based South Pacific Tourism Organisation towards victims of the tsunami in the Indian Ocean.

The secretary-general, Greg Urwin, says the donation is the latest in an ongoing effort by the Pacific region to help those who are most in need as a result of the tsunami.

Earlier, the Forum donated 48,000 US dollars to Forum Dialogue Partners India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand that have been most directly affected.

And the Cook Islands Red Cross says it has banked about 36,000 US dollars to date towards the tsunami relief effort, mainly from public pledges following a radio appeal.

It says the total contribution from the Cooks will be up to 56,000 US dollars.
