Companies listed on the Suva-based South Pacific Stock Exchange performed exceptionally well last year.

The outgoing chief executive of the Capital Markets Development Authority, Julie Apted, says last year's star performer was Flour Mills of Fiji Limited whose shares recorded a return of over 92-per cent.

Of this, 89-per cent was capital growth in the shares of the company which is headed by business tycoon Hari Punja.

Another Hari Punja company, Atlantic and Pacific Packaging, recorded a return of over 60-per cent.

Shares of Carlton Brewery Fiji Limited, which bought out most of the shares in Samoa Breweries, recorded a return of over 61-per cent.

Radio station operator, Communications Fiji Limited, reported a return of over 49-per cent.

Ms Apted says the performances indicate the growing interest and strong demand for shares listed on the South Pacific Stock Exchange.
