Marshall Islands appoints new ambassador to Japan

The Marshall Islands has confirmed the appointment of a veteran civil servant to be its new enjoy to Japan.

The former government chief secretary, Phillip Kabua, will replace his cousin in the post, Amatlain Kabua, who has been the Marshall Islands ambassador in Tokyo for seven years.

Robert Muller, the chief negotiator of the amended Compact of Free Association with the United States, is set to take over the chief secretary post from Phillip Kabua.

Japan and the Marshall Islands have close ties as the Marshalls were a Japanese colony between the two World Wars.
