Auditors called in at the American Samoa Senate

4:55 pm on 26 January 2005

The American Samoan Senate President Lolo Letalu Moliga is requesting the Territorial Audit Office to audit the Senate.

Lolo says the audit is to give him a clear picture of the status of Senate finances and operations.

He says it is not to find fault and points out that an audit is commonplace for any new administration.

It would be the first time the Territorial Audit Office has undertaken an audit of the Fono.

Our correspondent says that about 10 years ago auditors from the TAO were practically chased away from the Fono premises when they tried to carry out an audit of the House of Representatives.
