Australian police sent to investigate their own in Solomon Islands

7:44 pm on 27 January 2005

A lawyer in Solomon Islands says two Australian Federal Police officers have been sent from Canberra to discuss a complaint against RAMSI police.

A&A Legal Services in Honiara is threatening to file a case in the High Court on behalf of John Kwakwala Makasi, who claims Australian police forced him to urinate in front of them during an interrogation.

Mr Makasi was released after the incident.

Selestine Solosaia of A&A Legal Services says the two officers tasked with investigating the complaint against RAMSI police visited his firm yesterday to discuss the case.

Mr Solosaia is suggesting an out-of-court settlement may be reached by next week.
