Taiwan President to visit aid projects in Solomons

The Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian is travelling to Solomon Islands today on the second leg of a tour of his allies in the Pacific region.

Mr Chen is to visit Taiwan-funded aid projects and is to address a special sitting of parliament on Monday.

Mr Chen is flying on from Palau where he attended the second-term inauguration of the President Tommy Remengesau.

In Palau, Mr Chen also went snorkelling whilst being guarded by three Palauan police patrol boats and his own bodyguards.

Mr Chen is due to return to Taipei later on Monday after a five-hour stopover in Guam.
