Solomons PM says parliament to adjourn by Wednesday

10:50 am on 8 February 2005

The Solomon Islands government says it will adjourn parliament by tomorrow.

The prime minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, says MPs will hold a debate on provincial governments which have over-stayed their term because of a lack of funds for provincial elections.

Sir Allan says parliament will then adjourn without setting a date for the next meeting.

However, he says parliament will elect a new deputy speaker, following the appointment of Fred Fono as minister of planning.

Sir Allan made no mention of the motion of no-confidence expected to be brought by the former prime minister, Bartholomew Ulufa'alu.
