The Cook Islands is holding a national workshop next month on its Environment Act.
The Asian Development Bank, or ADB, is assisting the government in its efforts to develop an integrated system of regulations.
The focus will be on setting up compliance guidelines, monitoring and enforcement, and any amendments needed for current legislation.
There is also a push to improve co-ordination for effective environmental management.
A training and community awareness-raising programme is also planned according to the Cook Islands News.
