Samoa says it has appointed a renal specialist in India to replace the Samoa doctor who was to have headed the country's new Renal Dialysis Unit.

The 12-machine unit is to open in Apia on March the 14th.

The Samoan doctor who was to have headed the unit decided after receiving specialist training in New Zealand not to return to Samoa but to continue working in Auckland.

Samoa's Health Minister, Mulitalo Siafausa Vui, says a new head for the unit has been found.

"We already appointed a new renal physician. He is due Samoa on the 12th of March. I will let you know his name close to the time."
