Air Vanuatu's newly appointed chief executive officer says he aims to have the national carrier turning over a profit in the next financial year.

Terry Kerr says there are plans to consolidate operations after the airline lost almost 2 million US dollars in the last financial year.

He says at this stage they are working with code-share partners, and developing a merger with Vanuatu's domestic service, VanAir.

Mr Kerr says the introduction of a second 737 aircraft last year, which was unsuccessful, put huge financial strains on the company.

"VAN PROFIT tp"
