In Solomon Islands, the two prominent lawyers associated with the militia group, Malaita Eagle Force, have been charged in relation to money they had taken from compensation paid to Malaita province.

Andrew Nori and Leslie Kwaiga were the spokesmen for the MEF.

They have been charged in relation to a payment of nearly US$800,000 they had received on behalf of the militia group in 2000.

Kwaiga who is currently on bail on other charges, was yesterday charged with three counts of demanding money with menace and one count of receiving stolen property.

Nori has been charged with two counts of receiving the proceeds of a felony.

The two men appeared before the magistrates court late on Monday and have been given bail.
