9:55 pm on 2 March 2005

Cyclone Percy is continuing to move south towards the southern Cook Islands.

The cyclone has already caused huge devastation in the Tokelaus and in the northern Cook Islands.

Koro Vaka'uta has the latest.

"Cyclone Percy has been located at around 240 kilometres northwest of Palmerston in the Cook Islands, travelling southwards. It contains winds of around 230 kilometres an hour near the centre with gusts up to 315 kilometres an hour. The Fiji Met Service predicts it will travel southwards before curving southeast later. It says the Percy should be past Palmerston by lunchtime and the service will continue monitor the situation, with the possibility of further warnings being issued for the island of Rarotonga."
