Fiji's Election Commission calls on Government for more resources

8:52 pm on 3 March 2005

Fiji's Election Commission has told the prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, that it does not have adequate resources for next year's general elections.

Radio Fiji reports that members of the Election Commission headed by its chairman, Graham Leung, raised the issue in a meeting with Mr Qarase.

Mr Leung says Mr Qarase was supportive of suggestions that more resources were needed to conduct the elections next year.

He says the prime minister agreed with the need for organisational and institutional strengthening of the elections office.
