The Regional Assistance Mission in Solomon Islands has appointed a New Zealander, Paul Ash, as a Deputy Special Coordinator.

The Special Coordinator, James Batley said that RAMSI represents both a partnership with Solomon Islands but also a unique relationship between the participating countries from the region.

Mr Batley says New Zealand is making a substantial contribution to RAMSI and this is reflected in Mr Ash's appointment.

Mr Ash has worked in trade and fishing issues in the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

He's also held posts in Beijing and New Zealand's Commerce and Industry Office in Taipei.
