There are more reports of flood and landslide damage following the third day of torrential rain in southern Fiji.

Destruction is reported to be particularly heavy in a squatter settlement at Narere outside Suva occupied by people forced to move from Vanua Levu when their farm leases expired.

Flimsy structures have been swept away by flood waters and many families have lost all their belongings including food, clothing and bedding.

The Red Cross says it's preparing to help victims.

Elsewhere homes have been damaged or destroyed by

landslides and many areas are still without electricity and piped water.
