Greens in French Polynesia surprised at government line-up

The leader of the Greens in French Polynesia says the government line-up announced yesterday is a surprise as it failed to bring about the promised opening.

The ruling coalition built around the Union For Democracy led by the new President, Oscar Temaru, holds most of the 16 portfolios but none has gone to the Greens.

But the Greens leader, Jacky Bryant, has won one of the assembly seats made vacant by elected members now becoming ministers.

Observers say a surprise absence from a senior post is that of Antony Geros who was the assembly speaker last year.

It is believed he may again be nominated for the post once the term of the interim speaker ends next month.
