6:06 am on 12 March 2005

The body of an Australian soldier who lost his life in Solomon Islands is expected to be flown back to Sydney today.

Police and military investigations are under way into the death of Private Jamie Clark, who fell down a sinkhole on Thursday whilst on a patrol on Mount Austin just east of the capital.

His army colleagues and Australian police will provide an honour guard this morning when his body is taken to Honiara's airport.

A memorial service will be held at the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands base this afternoon.

Private Clark was the second Australian member of the mission to die in the Solomons.
