Fuel shortage grounds Air Niugini flights

12:20 pm on 21 March 2005

A shortage of aviation fuel has forced Air Niugini in Papua New Guinea to cancel some domestic flights.

The National newsaper reports that Air Niugini said it had been advised by the petroleum retailing giants, Shell and Mobil, yesterday of a shortage of fuel.

Shell says its normal jet fuelling operations have been halted at Jacksons Airport until further notice.

It says this is due to an inability to confirm the quality of the current shipment of fuel transferred to Shell's Port Moresby Terminal at Idubada.
