An American company has won a major case against Vanuatu's environmental unit and government over a multi-million-dollar hotel resort on Kakula Island in North Efate.

Kakula Island Resort Limited took legal action after the Environment Unit ordered it to stop construction work on the project, claiming that the company had breached an agreement it had signed prior to the project going ahead.

The court however dismissed the allegation and gave both parties two months to settle the matter out of court.
