A Fiji soldier who led the uprising at the military barracks in Labasa in 2000 is expected to give evidence in the trial of a man accused of wrongfully jailing fellow police officers.

Fijilive reports Lieutenant Rupeni Vosayaco will be a defence witness in the trial of former special constable Iokimi Lebati.

Vosayaco is serving a life term for mutiny for leading the takeover of the police station in July 2000.

Mr Lebati is on trial for nine counts of wrongfully confining police officers at the police station.

Mr Lebati has said Voasayaco will prove that he had been held up at a military checkpoint at the time the police officers were being locked up.

The trial resumes on March the 30th.
