A Solomon Islands high court judge has dismissed an appeal by Honiara businessman, Rolland Timo, against his 18 months prison sentence.
Timo, who was a candidate in the last general election, was convicted last year for demanding money with menaces and attempting to interfere with a witness.
His lawyer claimed that the magistrate had erred in law and that the sentence was excessive.
But the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation says this was rejected.
The judge ruled that there was no merit in claiming that there were special circumstances in Honiara when the offence was committed.
The complaint against Timo was only laid after the regional assistance mission arrived nearly two years ago.
