American Samoa's Territorial Auditor, George Webster, has been released on bail after being charged with spousal abuse.
Police arrested Webster at the weekend after sighting his government vehicle pulled to the side of the road and upon further investigation found Webster allegedly physically assaulting his wife.
He was released from the Tafuna Correctional Facility after being detained for thirty-six hours.
He is expected to appear in the District Court later this week.
