Solomons Opposition leader meets Chinese officials in Beijing

The leader of the Opposition in Solomon Islands, Francis Billy Hilly, has met senior Chinese officials in Beijing.

The Chinese news agency Xinhua reports Mr Billy Hilly was briefed on China's stance on the Taiwan question.

Officials are reported as saying China is willing to conduct exchanges in depth with major parties of Solomon Islands in various forms.

The Solomon Islands government has recently affirmed its support for Taiwan.

Mr Billy Hilly is reported as saying his visit would further mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

The Solomons politician said before his visit that his country hadn't benefited much from its diplomatic links with Taiwan.
