Samoa's Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sailele, has announced plans to set up a consulate office in American Samoa.

He says the office will primarily handle immigration matters involving citizens of Samoa visiting the territory.

Tuilaepa told the Samoa Broadcasting Corporation that the office will liaise with the two governments on immigration.

The establishment of a consulate office for Samoa in the territory was agreed to in previous inter-Samoa talks.

Tuilaepa said the territory has been encouraged to set up a similar office in Apia.
