Senate proposal for foreign spouses of American Samoans to get voting rights

An American Samoan senator, Tuiagamoa Tavai, has proposed that foreign spouses of US nationals or US citizens who are permanent residents in American Samoa will get the right to vote in local elections.

Thsi is being proposed in a constitutional amendment.

A Senate resolution says many permanent residents are married to US nationals or US citizens but cannot vote.

It also says permanent residents have contributed to the community, their children are US nationals or US citizens and their spouses should be allowed to vote.
