The president of the Bougainville People's Congress, Joseph Kabui, says the number one priority for his new political party is to ensure the peace agreement and constitution for the Papua New Guinea island are fully implemented.
He is to stand for president of Bougainville when the island holds its historic elections for an autonomous government next month.
Joseph Kabui joins the current governor, John Momis, who is standing for the New Bougainville Party, and who hopes to encourage the same sort of unified leadership which developed the peace agreement.
The Bougainville People's Congress played a key role in developing the peace deal and Mr Kabui, who will stand for the People's Congress Party, says they want to ensure the work is completed.
"The party will stand to make that the implementation of the Bougainville Peace Agreement and also the Bougainville Constitution be implemented to the fullest, both the letter and the spirit of the documents."
