Known HIV/Aids cases in the Indonesian province of Papua continue to increase, with a seven per cent rise in number of people testing positive for the virus in just three months.

The provincial health official, Suwardi Redjo, says 1874 people in the province have now tested positive for the disease, 125 more people than in December.

Mr Redjo says the actual number of people who had contracted the virus could be 10 times higher than the official figures.

He says more than half the total number of those testing HIV positive were in their 20s.
