Solomons MPs to receive help from Commonwealth Parliamentary Association

12:01 pm on 11 April 2005

Secretary to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Noel Johnson, says there appears to be confusion about the role of parliamentarians amongst Solomon Islands leaders.

Mr Johnson, who has been in Solomon Islands to help run a special seminar, says such confusion is not surprising in a small country that has gone through the problems the Solomons has experienced over the last five years.

"The role of parliament has become a bit confused, a bit mixed up and one of the things that we want to do is help members think through how they want to develop the parliament over the next few years and what are the priority issues for them in doing their job of representing the people and scrutinizing the government."

All members of parliament from the nine provinces in the country were in Honiara to attend the first seminar hosted by CPA.
