Election officials on Niue are tomorrow morning expected to publish a list of candidates for the general election at the end of the month.
The director of Niue's Broadcasting Corporation, Patrick Lino, says some of the island's villages will decide to declare the support of all of their villagers for one candidate.
But Mr Lino says the island's shrinking population means the fight for support has in some cases, pitched family members against each other.
"There's only a small community in there; it's not like how it used to be, where you can nominate three or four people in a village and it's ok, but now if you have someone going against someone who's already in there, the opinions of people become very polarised, that some of them are a bit scared to rock the boat sort of thing."
Patrick Lino says there's intense lobbying under way in some villages for the candidacy, whereas people in other villages have opted instead to stand for the six common roll seats.
