The first group of about 45 soldiers from the US Army Reserve Unit in Pago Pago have arrives in American Samoa onboard a military flight after serving a year in Iraq.

The local troops were part of the 600 soldiers of the Pacific Army Reserve's 411th Engineer Battalion, which had been deployed to Iraq in March last year.

The soliders have been in Honolulu for three weeks undergoing demobilization.

The territory's congressman, Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin said he had asked the military to find out why it had taken so long to get the paperwork done, to release the soldiers and provide them with airfares to American Samoa.
