Teachers in Cook Islands begin studying internet course coming from Auckland

Teachers in the Cook Islands have begun a New Zealand training course which will be taught mainly through the internet.

A dozen Cook Islands teachers today began studies for the Graduate Diploma of Education in Educational Leadership, from the University of Auckland.

The Head of Postgraduate Studies at the University's Epsom Campus, Linda Selby, says Cook Islands teachers were interested in twinning with their New Zealand counterparts.

Ms Selby hopes the New Zealand headteachers involved in the course can in turn learn more about teaching in Pasifika contexts.

The Cook Islands has 23 government-run schools, eight of which are on Rarotonga and 15 of which, are spread out among the nine outer islands.
