A former Government Minister in Solomon Islands is calling on Parliament to seek an independent auditor to review the activities of the Regional Assistance Mission.
The Pacific Islands Forum is setting up a Eminent Persons Group to conduct the review next month.
The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports the former Agriculture Minister, Alfred Sasako, says that while the Forum is the premier organization in the region, there could be doubts over its independence.
He says the fact an Australian heads the Forum is ground enough for doubts and suspicion over the outcome of any review.
He says it is in Australia's interest that its top regional diplomat is not allowed to be embroiled in an already delicate situation.
