RAMSI re-issues a call for Solomon Islanders to surrender guns still in community

1:14 pm on 20 April 2005

The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands says it will continue to appeal to the holders of illegal guns to surrender them to the police.

RAMSI Special Coordinator, James Batley, has told the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation that illegal gun holders have either buried their weapons or hidden them in the bush.

But he said RAMSI will maintain its appeal until all the guns are collected and destroyed.

Mr Batley said the appeal also applies to Solomon Islanders who know the whereabouts of any guns.
