The junior partner in Fiji's coalition government says the leadership of the military is a threat to national security.
The pro-coup Conservative Alliance Matanitu Vanua says no weapons are missing from the military armoury as all were returned after the coup.
The party was responding to a statement by the minister for home affairs, Josefa Vosanibola, who told parliament that Commodore Bainimarama needed armed body guards because his life was under threat as 13 high powered weapons have been missing since the coup.
The Conservative Alliance has accused the military of using the missing weapons to destabilise the country.
But the military spokesman, Captain Neumi Leweni, says the Conservative Alliance must be reminded that certain members of the party played a role in the 2000 crisis and created the havoc from which Fiji is still trying to recover.
Captain Leweni says frivolous comments by the Conservative Alliance are merely an attempt to cover up for the part they played in the events of 2000.
