An MP in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas says the government should sell off a store of confiscated guns, or throw them away.

The Saipan Tribune reports Ramon Tebuteb as saying the Department of Public Safety is storing some 3,000 firearms at its armoury.

Mr Tebuteb says the weapons should be claimed, auctioned off, or thrown away.

Members of the public in the Northern Marianas are forbidden from using hand guns.

But, licensees can use some types of rifle for hunting or recreation.
