Traditional owners of land on which Fiji's Nadi International Airport and associated businesses are situated want a share of the profits generated by their operations.

A landowners' chief for the area, Ratu Ponijese Nalukuya, has told the Fiji Times newpaper the airport was built on land provided by his clan and other parties to help in the defence of the country during the second world war.

He says since the end of the war the airport and surrounding land has been used for commercial purposes from which millions of dollars have been generated.

Ratu Ponijese says his people would pursue their claims with the government.
